Orthodox communities, no matter which religion they follow, has often been depicted as being averse to change ranging from ideas, beliefs to technology. In Rebecca Thomas’ debut feature film, this community is a Mormon family from Utahl which has shunned all forms of technology. One fine day, a young girl from Mormon community listens to a song in a tape recorder and she realises she’s pregnant, she believes that the singer of the song might be the child’s father.
Soon, she goes on an extraordinary journey to find out who he is. Rachel (Julia Garner) escapes from her family in Utah. When she heads to Las Vegas in search of this mysterious singer, Rachel comes across several people who completely change her life. It’s a bizarre film which sounds too good to be true. Julia Garner’s stand out performance is one of the main reasons why this film works to a large extent. Electrick Children is an amusing film with a touch of miracle and a whole lot of coincidence.
