Hyderabad burns as world watches
A day that should have seen the City band together to herald the start of the CoP, turned into one fraught with fear and rocked by violence as T-protestors clashed with police.
After the thunderstorms, water cannons, tear gas and stone-throwing yesterday, the T protest left scores of policemen and participants hurt and some in danger of being permanently maimed. According to police commissioner Anurag Sharma, 19 policemen, including one IPS officer, sustained injuries in the violence. Also, 25 police vehicles bore the brunt of agitators, as they set some of them on fire, he said. In the stone-pelting incidents on Necklace road an IPS officer, Rajasekhar, who is working as SP Intelligence, and police inspector Gopal Rao sustained injuries. The commissioner alleged that left wing extremist joined the march that led to trouble breaking out.
