Huge potential for tabs with mobile compatibility draws more players.
Tablet is evolving in to all round devices that can perform multiple tasks. The smartness and screen size enables customers to perform range of tasks — watching TV or a movie, play games or reading books and magazines. After the success of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 with mobile compatibility, indigenous phone makers are getting ready to launch thier tabs with phone facility. Celkon has unveiled CT2, a 7-inch tab on Wednesday. This competition to exploit the unchartered territory is making customer the winner.
“We have launched Celtab CT2 at Rs.7,499; this will be the first tab from Indian maker with SIM facility, which enables customers to get the functions of phone in the Tab,” said Y Guru, MD, Celkon.
On the tablet market, he said, “There is huge potential for tablets with its increasing usage in education, travel and other purposes. Educational institutes are conducting their tests on these tabs connected with the server. Even cab services are using these devices to entertain their customers. We have bookings of 50,000 tablets that need to be met for our CT1 and CT2,” he said.
“Customers are also looking at something compact with Internet accessibility, music, mail or a movie at their fingertips. The customer can have accesses to lakhs of applications at Google Play store and price is also affordable, which was a constraint earlier,” Guru said.
“The customer can now have the phone facility at `1,500 more than the stand-alone tab. However, he does need to have a separate dongle to access Internet but can get connected to the Internet (Edge network) with SIM. The customer can use a bluetooth ear device or an earphone to talk at ease with out handling the whole device,” Guru explained.
About standing out from the rest, he said, “We are striving on quality by taking care of internal technology along with features. The controllers are integrated inside the tab to cool the processor. The tablet will not get hot even after prolonged usage.
“We expect the market potential in the state is around 1 lakh tabs. With this launch, we are targeting 50 per cent of this market.” Celkon is also planning to bring in new 9-inch tab and a low priced 7-inch tab with out SIM facility soon. It is targeting to generate 10 per cent of its revenues from tablets.
