Smart traffic cops get ready for green event
Considering cops are the face of the government, traffic police are getting ready with new sets of uniform and some exercise to keep them fit for the upcoming CoP.
It’s not just the Cityscape that is getting a set for the gala CBD; traffic cops too are getting a spruced up, with a smart look for the eye of the world. In place of the usual out-of-shape traffic policemen in crumpled uniforms looking away from the traffic snarlswould be smart men and women in freshly-made, well stitched uniforms — complete with a cellphone, walkie-talkie, helmet and mask — at least for 19 days — from October 1.
The additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand is giving final touches in the greenroom for his men and women who will be facing thousands of delegates from India and abroad.
New uniforms are being stitched. The government has drafted some 3,000 traffic policemen for the world meet. They are drawn from different departments but one thing in common is the smart-look and smart behaviour.“As per our plan, we have completed road works with traffic angles, and 14 routes are identified for CBD. Some 145 buses from Hyderabad and 100 buses from Cyberabad are being arranged for the delegates, Anand said.
Nearly 300 uniformed scouts will be fully devoted for the delegates and their buses. They will be clad in Navy blue pants and light blue shirts and will be trilingual to handle both Indian and foreign delegates. Those facilitating the CBD must know Hindi and English as thousands of Indian delegates from different states will be speaking either in Hindi or in English.
These scouts are being given a 10-day crash course on manners and language and also some insight into what theCBD means.Anand agreed that the term biodiversity is Greek to many and that was the reason for imparting some understanding about what constitutes biological diversity and how it is crucial for human survival.
While taking care of the look of his men is within his powers, he is powerless when dealing with the happy-go-lucky GHMC.“I have been telling them to get the road networks and other infrastructure ready but they did not react. But they are hurrying now,” rued Anand.
“When I got a chance to visit the Olympics that were held in UK, I found they had completed all preparation till the last detail one year before the event. But here, the authorities are still out with spade and bucket just 10 days before the function to roll on,” Anand said. “CBD is a great opportunity to showcase our City and its ability to handle a mega event. Nobody should take it lightly,” he believes.
