The process of outsourcing internal operations in certain segments is increasing in the country.
The business of Finnish textile service company, Lindstrom, evolved from companies outsourcing their textile needs and services and there by focusing on their core business. Started in 1848, the €262 million company has spread its operations globally in 1992.
Talking about process, Juha Laurio, president and CEO, said, “The customers can choose from the Lindstrom collection or get themselves customised work wear. The company
provides laundry, locker and individual garments design and procurement according to
specific requirements of employees. The garment is collected repaired or even replaced, as and when new employee joins the company. The companies can skip procuring, maintaining and repairing the textiles.
On costs, he said, “The small business does not need to worry about fixed costs. The costs are variable according to the number of employees, which let even small companies to afford our services. The weekly rental starts for `10 for single garment and vary with the type of garments,”
“Outsourcing their individual textile services will increase the quality and efficiency of these services. The hygiene levels and brand value of the company is maintained in the clothes employees wear. The clothes are designed according to the requirements of the industry keeping the safety, hygiene and other factors,” he said.
Talking about Indian market, he said, “The business in the country is open to these new services. There are wide number of businesses from varied sectors that include automobiles, food, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and restaurants. Almost 80 per cent of the customers are small companies and the rest are large companies. These large companies generate 80 per cent of the company’s revenues.”
The 2,500-employee company is operating in 21 countries worldwide has forayed to Indian market in 2007, with their launch in Chennai. Today, the company has presence in five cities including Hyderabad and soon to expand their operations to Panchkula in Northern India. The company has around 500 clients. Around 70 per cent of their Indian customers are domestic companies and the rest are multinationals.
