Three of the five films releasing this weekend feature women in pivotal roles. A coincidence?
It’s going to be a rare Friday at box-office which will be be dictated by women. Three of the five films lined up for release — Heroine, Avunu and Charulatha — revolve around the lives of female protagonists.
It’s certainly a coincidence that all these films have fallen on the same weekend and an interesting one at the same time. The biggest release of them all is going to be Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine starring Kareena Kapoor in lead role. It’s one of the most awaited films of the year and all eyes are on Kareena Kapoor who’s the star attraction of the film. Last year, she had replaced Aishwarya Rai, who was Madhur Bhandarkar’s first choice to play the role. But the real question is, will Kareena Kapoor end up doing a Vidya Balan, in Dirty Picture, and pull the crowds to the theatres?
Among the other two films, Ravi Babu’s suspense thriller Avunu has managed to capture people’s attention with its innovative posters and theatrical trailer. Suresh Babu and PVP Cinemas are backing the film which has given the film an edge at box office. Poorna has played the lead role and it’s her first Telugu film since Seema Tapakai. In a recent interview, Ravi Babu confessed that the film is based on a real incident which Yami Gautam had narrated to him. On the other hand, Priyamani will be seen as conjoined twins in Ponkumaran’s Charulatha. The horror film is a remake of a Thai film named Alone. Geetha Films is distributing the film. All the films are going to hit the screens on September 21 along with Vennela 1 ½ . It’s going to be a chaotic weekend at box-office, but at the same time, it has left the audience spoilt for choice.
