GHMC committee did not check potential mosquito breeding grounds
Even as the CoP-11 is fast approaching, the standing committee of GHMC failed to visit drains and streams that are potential breeding grounds.
Despite the urgency, the planned visit of GHMC officials to several of the City lakes was postponed twice this month. The standing committee members were supposed to visit several of the lakes in view of the impending world meet but to the utter dismay of zonal commissioners and other higher officials, none turned up.
Several Engineers from the chief engineer (maintenance) to the engineers at zonal level and the special deputy collector (land acquisition) — all were on their toes on September 7 and September 15.
Drains and streams were to be visited to do damage-controlling measures as an outbreak of communicable diseases during the CBD would put the City to ignominy. But the political members of the Committee couldn’t care less.
Sai Aishwarya Residency Cheruvu, near LANCO Hills, Pedda Cheruvu (South and West), Gopi Cheruvu (North Side), Gopanpally Tank, Gopi Cheruvu (South Side), Pedda Cheruvu (North and West), Kocha Kunta, Ring Bund, Oontiwadi Nallah and land at Chilkalguda were scheduled to be inspected.
Except two sites, which fall under North and South Zone, all eight sites are from the West Zone, most of them in Serilingampally division, the venue of the meeting.
According to observers, the lack of coordination between the bureaucrats and executive, continues. Corporators blame officials and engineers for the poor state of roads and other civic amenities.
Some engineers have come up with strong letters of disapproval from their association resenting the politicians penchant to blame officials at the drop of a hat.
