It’s all about the money
The GHMC unions are all set for the elections. Even as the D-day draws closer the GHMC office is filled with flags and banners. The two unions that are expected to lock horns are expected to spend big money this year too. Last year the two unions are said to have spent more than `25 lakh for the elections. There are some though who are yet to loosen purse strings. “We have our own approach,” retorted a union leader. (MN)
Evolution on road
Parking your vehicle outside your house is commonplace. What is uncommon is having a road roller parked outside your gate, because the owner is a contractor! In a lane next to Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda, a defunct road roller has been parked for over two years. What’s funnier is that even the road has changed shape according to it. It is heard that the owner, a certain Jabbar Ahmed, lives right next door. Since he owns over a dozen road rollers he has rightfully decided to park the machine there. (RR)
Officials change of heart
What used to be educational hubs are now changing into dens for illegal activities. Take for instance the case of government school that was being used to sell gudumba (illicit liquor). Hindi Maha Vidyalaya in Purana Pul, has for the past few months been selling gudumba. On Wednesday excise officials raided the school and seized 4,000 gudumba sachets. So far, the police have not arrested anybody. What is puzzling is that despite repeated complaints, no action was taken. Buzz is that officials were paid hefty bribes to turn a blind eye. How then, did the tide turn? (MS)
Nothing’s permanent here
The famous adage “Nobody is a permanent enemy in politics” comes true when it comes to Congress leaders in the State. The leaders who were criticising former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy are now praising him. A recent programme held to commemorate YSR’s death anniversary by a majority of the State Cabinet leaders including the CM, had many surprised. This turn of events could give the opposition party an opportunity to say that the Congress and YSRC will merge. (IA)
