The polo season in Hyderabad for the year 2012 kick started on Saturday with the Bison Cup. This year the tournament will witness four events being held namely, The Bison Cup, The Army Commander’s Cup, The Chief Minister’s Cup and The Prince of Berar Cup.
The sport which is also known as the “Sport of Kings” has been played in Hyderabad since many years. Though the army conducts the event every year, it is still not a well known sport .
Being a costly sport, it does not have many takers. “This is because of the cost as well as the lack of exposure. Like many other sports in the country, even polo needs its share of encouragement,” rued one of the organisers.
In their bid to do their bit, the organisers of the Hyderabad Polo season are trying their best to see that the public are able to witness the matches by making entry for the matches free-for-all.
Also, with the likes of Samir Suhag being given the Arjuna award, their seems to be a new found ray of hope for the sport.
