GHMC has procured and inaugurated new fogging machines.
In contradiction to what the officials of entomology department maintained this year, that fogging was not an effective method to control mosquitoes, the GHMC has procured and officially inaugurated 20 new machines, in addition to 91 which were already distributed to various circle offices.
Proven to be unscientific, this rather bizarre technique, which may attract diseases has been availed for several years. But with the recent statements by senior officials of the entomology department, it was widely believed that the GHMC would not procure more of these machines and control mosquitoes using other procedures. However, with the mayor, deputy mayor and
the commissioner formally inaugurating them, several questions are being raised.
The new machines were procured at the cost of Rs.58,000 each. According to some officials, even though these might be ineffective, people believe that fogging is helpful for controlling mosquitoes.
