The youth married the minor, claiming that he was a rich bachelor from Gujarat. She escaped when she found that he was already married and planned to push her into flesh trade.
A minor Hyderabadi girl from a poor family, who thought herself lucky when a ‘rich’ Gujarati boy married her, later found to her horror that he was neither rich nor a bachelor but had a wife and two children back home.
When her ‘husband’ and his first wife tried to initiate her into flesh trade, she escaped and returned home. The Tandur police have now picked up the man, Dinesh of Latur, and a mediator, Asima, who had arranged the marriage.
Vidisha (name changed), a minor, is the only daughter of Shantamma, a widow, living at Indiranagar in Tandur of RR district. When Asima approached her and introduced the smart-looking Dinesh as a rich boy from Gujarat who owns a multi-storey building, other properties, three cars and a big bank balance, Shantamma fell for it. The mediator said all the marriage
expenditures plus a ‘packet of money’ would be paid to the girl’s mother, as he is very ‘charitable’. Accordingly, the girl’s mother arranged the marriage on July 5, after concealing Vidisha’s true age.
Soon after the marriage, Dinesh took the girl to his native village, where she was shocked to find he lived in a hutment and had a wife and two kids. His wife began to abuse her and later sweet-talked her to cash in on her youth. Suffering agony and helplessness in an alien place, she underwent hell, Vidisha explained to RR district SP D Rajkumari. Somehow, she managed to escape and came back to her mother.
According to the girl and her mother, the youth was trying to snare poor, young girls, marry them and use them for the flesh trade. He would act well: good looking and young, Dinesh wore expensive clothes and went around in posh cars (borrowed or hired) claiming to be a rich kid from Gujarat. He spoke a bit of English, used expensive perfume and spent liberally to trap potential prey.
Tandur circle inspector Srinivas picked up Dinesh and Asima and charged them under various sections for cheating, marrying a minor and indulging in flesh trade. The girl was subjected to medical tests and it was proved that she is a minor. During interrogation, it
was revealed that Asima got Rs.80,000 from Dinesh to help him trap the girl.
