On this day Bill Clinton admitted to having an affair with the White House intern Monica Lewinsky, joining the ranks of celebrities whose straying habits ended up putting them in the limelight. We look at some of these wayward Jacks and Janes.

 

John F Kennedy

We all know that JFK was a ladies man, with that mop of hair and dimpled smiles, few could not help but be smitten by this handsome president. According to Robert Dallek’s book, JFK liked to ‘fool around’ a lot. It seems his secret service was well-practiced in whisking away the President’s women so that Jackie his wife, could not find out. The affair that caused the biggest uproar was his affair with the blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe. After Monroe came to a dinner at the White House and gave her number to Jack, he called her and requested she join him at Palm Springs. Of course Monroe came, but things became worse. Jackie had to plead with Monroe to keep the affair a secret when she found out how smitten Monroe was with JFK. He on the other hand had gotten over Monroe after Palm Springs itself.

 

Arnold Schwarzenegger

He was once called the Terminator but then after he admitted to have fathered a child with his maid, pictures of him began doing the rounds on the Internet which tagged him as the Sperminator. Mildred Baeana had been the family’s hired help for more than 20 years. When Maria Shriver, Arnold’s wife came to know about the affair, she confronted Mildred and Arnold and that’s when all hell broke loose. Arnold apparently told Mildred that his was a sexless marriage. The ironic thing is that both Mildred and Maria were pregnant with Arnold’s kids at the same time. When the star came to know of Mildred’s child, he supported her and the family generously in order to keep rumour mills from getting wind of their illicit affair. Maria who was married to Arnold for 25 years at that time, soon filed for divorce.

 

Bill Clinton

His former aides say that women were completely mesmerised by him and literally swarmed to him like flies. Clinton once said that he had to shut down his body once he became president but one woman’s entry changed it all. It was Monica Lewinsky, an intern and then a permanent staffer at the White House. The Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair started in 1995 during his first term. She once confided about her presidential affair to co-worker Linda Tripp. Tripp told the story to the media and independent counsel Kenneth Starr. Things got out of hand and he first denied the affair and after Lewinsky produced evidence — the infamous blue dress — Clinton was charged with perjury. The House of Representatives deemed Clinton to have committed an impeachable offence. However, in the midst of all this chaos and humiliation Hillary, his wife, though hurt, stood by him.

 

Tiger Woods

He was, probably still is the best at his sport. He had a reputation of being a model husband and an amazing golfer. But appearances can often be deceptive. A car crash on November 27, 2009 was the undoing of Tiger Woods. Elin Nordegren, a former model found that her husband, the world’s number 1 golfer had been sinking his putts somewhere else too. Rachel Uchitel, Jamie Grubbs were some names that were thrown up and in the coming weeks, many other women also claimed of having affairs with the golfer. Though the golfer admitted to his transgressions, his wife did not take to it lightly. She made sure Tiger was more than sorry. Elin bagged from Woods more than $100 million as settlement and the custody of their two children. She even got the eight-roomed mansion they were staying in, razed it only to build a better one.

 

Prince Charles

There were three of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded, princess Diana had once famously said on an interview on Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles affair. In 1971, the pair first met, though sparks flew, nothing could be done. Soon Camilla was married to another man and Charles started dating Diana. However, even after their marriages Charles and Camilla’s meetings continued unabated, Diana knew of this and slowly and gradually started seeing other men. Though Diana has also been known to have had affairs while being married to Charles, she has been seen as the victim of the entire episode and Camilla the home-wrecker. When things got out in the open in 1993, Charles and Diana divorced. After her death in 1997 and after a lot of opposition Charles succeeded in making his love affair successful and now Camilla is his wife.

 

Brad Pitt

He is one charmer, no wonder ladies go weak at the sight of him. But the fact of the matter is that Pitt too goes weak-kneed at the sight of one woman — a woman with a body to die for and a very sexy pout —Angelina Jolie. In fact, he did not care for anybody when he started dating her despite the fact that he was very much a married man. Jennifer Aniston, his former wife is in no ways less on the hotness scale when you compare her to Jolie. Jolie in fact has been a home-wrecker of sorts. Back in 1999, Angelina played mistress to Billy Bob Thorton. Billy Bob left his live-in girlfriend, Laura Dern, to marry Jolie. Pitt has since then stuck to his lady love, and stays with his brood of children and the couple are in fact planning to marry this year. Jen on the other hand too is engaged. So, since then moved on.

 

Rupert Sanders

He had as claims a wonderful family and ‘two heavenly children’, yet these two factors did not deter him from embarking on an affair with 22-year-old starlet Kristen Stewart, an actor in his film Snow White and the Huntsman. Now Kristen Stewart is part of the famous Robsten, her co-actor in Twilight Robert Pattinson is the other half. The guilty party were caught canoodling in Sanders’ car and the worst part, Pattinson and Ross remained blissfully unaware of the avalanche that was headed towards them in the next day’s newspapers.

Caught in the act the two had no option but to confess and each went onto publicly apologise for their indiscretion. The public was thrown into an uproar, they could not believe that whom they had believed were perfect couple would no longer be together.
