A recent global poll voted Dame Helen Mirren as the celebrity who has aged best. While the poll focused on Western stars, our Bollywood brigade also boasts a number of beauties who could clearly give her some competition.

Hema Malini

The Dreamgirl of Bollywood has donned several hats — dancer, actress, mother, director and politician. In all her avatars, she has maintained the same professionalism and elegance that she is known for. Her mesmerising eyes and laughter puts you at ease the moment you see her. Few in the Hindi film industry can boast of a fan following that she enjoys. A woman who believes in living life on her own terms, Hema has come a long way from being just Dharmendra’s wife. She was and is still considered the epitome of feminity. Her charisma and spunk just refuses to diminish.

Sridevi

She is one of the most beautiful and versatile actors to grace the big screen. Men used to go gaga just watching her dance and emote on screen. Once she went the family way, she gave that role too her best and did not think of a comeback until she was ready. Through the years fans have been begging to see more of her. In her early years as an actress she was not rated too high on the stylometer. But after her marriage and her sabbatical from films, Sridevi has taken care of her looks and now at 48, an outsider cannot tell that she is a mother of two. There is a certain grace and elegance in her walk which makes her look all the more beautiful.

Neetu Kapoor

The nation’s current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is her son. Yester years’ romantic hero Rishi Kapoor is her husband and she herself was the girlfriend every boy would die to have. Presenting Neetu Singh, the fun-loving, optimistic girl who charmed everyone with her girlish innocence. She started her life as a child star, married at the peak of her career, she put family first and claims she regrets it not one bit. Her appearances in the recent past had been accompanying either her husband or her son to events. She watched from the sidelines as her children scaled greater heights and yet whenever she came out in public, all eyes would be on her, for a glimpse of that winsome smile.

Nafisa Ali

She has a long list of achievements to her name. A beauty queen, a champion swimmer and a social activist — roles that she plays with great elan. She made a fashion statement with her shaven head long back and now she continues to do the same with her infectious smile and grey and white hair. Her last stint in acting on the big screen was Yamla Pagla Deewana where she acted opposite Dharmendra. One look at this light-eyed beauty and you will find that like old wine which gets better with age, Nafisa too is getting prettier, each passing year.

Sharmila Tagore

This Kashmir ki kali is one ethereal beauty. Her dark kohl-lined eyes, the lustrous hair and mischievous smile won many hearts. Her most noticeable feature are her eyes. This doe-eyed beauty married the handsome Nawab of Pataudi. There is something about this princess that captivates any onlooker. Sharmila’s oomph factor lies in her ethereal charm and elegance, topped with her infectious dimpled smile. She recently lost the love of her life but she still retains the same dignified stance that she always maintained.

Rekha

She is the eternal diva. This highly versatile actress has played a wide range of roles ranging from a courtesan, spurned lover, rape victim to a glamorous femme-fatale. This diva who ruled over a lot of hearts shocked everyone when rumours of her affair with the reigning star Amitabh Bachchan surfaced. The episode gave her an image of a woman who was left pining for her love. Since then she has had an aura of mystery about her — one that continues to haunt fans worldwide. Her career as an actress started off with a lot of criticism for being overweight, dark and awkward. However, the transformation she underwent to silence her critics was commendable. Rekha has always been the ultimate symbol of sensuality and mysteriousness and has lived on in the minds of people despite almost disappearing from the movie scene for a long time.
