Good year in store for Andhra Pradesh, says Bonalu oracle

The Ujjaini Mahankali temple streets buzzed with festive fervour on the last day of the Bonalu festival in Secunderabad. Thousands of devotees thronged the temple as early as 3am. Arrangements had been made to deal with the large number of devotees.
The festivity was at its peak from 9am onwards when the ratha started, following which Swarnalatha, commonly known as akka, made predictions for this year. Swarnalatha, who has been doing this for the last 15 years, had predicted last year that floods would occur and no separate Telangana state would be declared.
The procession marched into the temple to the beats of traditional drums. Swarnalatha, after entering the temple, predicted that this year would be smooth for Andhra Pradesh. “Soon, it will start raining. How much is needed, that much will be given to us. Unlike last year, this year no floods; there will be accurate rainfall,” said Swarnalatha. “Politically, each party will take care of their constituency and temple construction will get over at the earliest,” she said.
After the predictions, she met devotees and blessed them. People who came from various parts of the City were overwhelmed when she said that Mahankaliamma would take care of her devotees’ needs and would bless each one who served her with devotion.
Police officers were stationed at key points to maintain law and order and to ensure that there were no traffic jams, right from Patny up to RP road.
Despite the large number of people, everything was smooth and orderly. Measures like providing drinking water, separate lines and controlling vehicular moment helped ensure the smooth flow of devotees.
