A police patrolling vehicle “Rakshak’ was parked on the road near the station. The driver, preparing to alight, opened the driver door without looking for the oncoming traffic. Two students of Narayana college, riding a bike, came and smashed on to the opening window, lost balance and fell. The rider, identified as Atul Lohiya, died on the spot and his companion, Govind Jagu, suffered injuries.

After the incident, angry students came in hoards and gathered before the police station demanding the arrest of the driver. The police, however, had by then sent the driver away.

Meanwhile, the police are trying to turn the table on the students. Both students are underage and the police are using this as the case of illegal driving to cover up their own folly. Assistant commissioner of police, Abids, B Limba Reddy told Postnoon that a case of accident was registered. However he did not say if the students are being put in the dock.

Meanwhie, some 300 students, are sitting on dharna before the police station and wanted the constable arrested. Tension prevails in the station area while going to the press.
