Bulgarian coach, player quit team
SOFIA: Bulgaria’s national volleyball coach Radostin Stoychev and star player Matey Kaziyski announced their shock decision to quit the team on Monday, just a day after qualifying for the Olympics. Stoychev had earlier pressed for the resignation of federation chief Dancho Lazarov and vowed that it was either Lazarov or him after the Olympics qu-alifier held at the weekend.
“Since there has been no resignation tabled by Dancho Lazarov so far, I confirm that I am undertaking action to end my contract as national volleyball team coach,” a visibly moved Stoychev said on Monday. He cited ineffecti-veness, lack of transparency about the way the federation spent its money, and failure to come up with a promise-d strategic plan for the development of volleyball as the motives behind his decision. Stoychev, a huge star at Italian champions Trentino Volley, took over the Bulgarian team in February 2011 and his contract was due to expire after the Olympics.
