SYDNEY: Dumped rower Pippa Savage has been selected as a non-travelling reserve to the Australian team for next month’s London Olympics, Rowing Australia said on Friday.

Savage was last month axed from the Olympic women’s quad team due to “incompatibility issues” among the crew as tensions escalated on the water in a Swiss lead-up event to London.

Rowing Australia (RA) said Friday’s decision followed lengthy discussions and at Savage’s request it did not require the original appeal against her removal from the women’s quadruple scull to be heard.

“I’m pleased with the outcome,” Savage said in a statement. “My goal to get to a second Olympic Games is still a possibility. I’ll continue to train hard.”

RA chief executive Andrew Dee said the agreement was acceptable to both parties. “The matter of Pippa’s selection is now settled,” Dee said. “She has accepted a position as a non-travelling reserve.”
