Jagan out, Vijayamma now in rivals’ firing line
Shocked at the massive turnout in the YSR leader YS Vijayamma’s campaign trail, the ruling Congress and opposition TDP, have changed their tactics. Now, the two parties have shelved Jagan for a while and have begun attacking Vijayamma, who they say is the ‘mother’ of all irregularities for which her son is now jailed.
The Congress leaders are trying to corner the YSRC leaders by terming Vijayamma and her daughter’s campaign as an attempt to get back to power by shedding crocodile tears. PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana went to the extent of saying that people have begun to doubt whether the family was responsible for YSR’s untimely death. “Jagan is the most corrupt politician in the country. And, his mother Vijayamma is striving to bring her son to power. The way she is speaking in favour of her son and to bring him to power, we have doubts whether YSR’s family was behind his death,” Botsa said while addressing a media conference at Ramachandrapuram constituency.
On the other hand, cabinet minister Kondru Murali went a step ahead and called YSR a corrupt politician. “We thought YSR was a good politician. But it is not so. He implemented our party’s welfare programmes and took credit for it. But in turn, he resorted to corruption and looted the people. While Indira Gandhi distributed kings’ land to poor people. YSR took land from poor people to benefit his son,” he said.
TDP fielded its Mahila leaders to counter Vijayamma’s allegations. These leaders include mahila morcha president Shoba Hymavathi, and other leaders like Shoba Rani. “What is Rajanna Rajyam according to her. Is it Rama Rajyam? No. It is Rowdy Rajyam (Rowdy rule),” Shoba Hymavathi said.
