The Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday regretted ‘politicising’ Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrest by the CBI on Sunday in the disproportionate assets case. He denounced the emotional outbursts of Jagan’s mother Vijaya Lakshmi who blamed the Congress leadership for all ills the family faced.
“Both the Central as well as the State governments have no role in his arrest in the disproportionate assets cases. In fact, these cases have been initiated based on the directive of the courts,” Kiran said.
The chief minister said that Vijaya Lakshmi’s intention in seeking to dig up the issue of YSR’s death in a helicopter crash was to gain political mileage before the June 12 by-elections to the 18 Assembly seats and one parliamentary constituency. The CM threw a challenge at the YSR family that if it would present fresh evidence of any mysterious happening that led to the helicopter crash, his government would order a fresh inquiry.
Asked if the government had any plan to defend the Cabinet ministers who are under notice by the CBI in the controversial government order cases, Kiran answered in the affirmative. “The government may consider supporting all those ministers who have been issued notices by the CBI on the issue of government orders,” he said. But this was no carte blanche and it all depends on the legal opinion the government receives. The Chief Minister refused to be drawn into many political issues concerning his government.
