Do or die for CSK, MI
Defending champions, Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians in the eliminator today. Both the teams had to wriggle their way to make it to the qualifiers.
Chennai, unlike expected, did not fair too well this season. They began the season on a losing note – they were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match.
The form of the players too has been a cause for concern. Skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni does not seem to perform in a manner that he is famous for. Million dollar baby, Ravindra Jadeja has performed well but only in flashes while Suresh Raina has been a near flop-show this year.
Faf du Plessis and Albie Morkel had put up a few match winning performances but will they be able to repeat their acts remains unclear. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, who were ranked higher than Chennai in this year’s standings, would look to dethrone the champions. The Champions league title holders would look crush Chennai in their bid to meet Delhi Daredevils in the second qualifier and then the final. But if they lose the battle today, then it curtains down for Mumbai.
MI have many players to boast about in their squad. While master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar’s name is enough to send a chill down the opponent’s spine, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Smith are names to reckon with. They have, on numerous occasions held the innings together to see their team sail through.
The Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have met on two instances this season and Mumbai won both the encounters. Will history repeat itself and see Mumbai sail to safety first or will Chennai script a new story, remains to be seen.
