Case booked against driver
Additional director general of police (railway) VSK Kumudi told Postnoon a case has been booked in Hindupur railway police against the Hampi Express driver MY Ratnam and assistant driver Balaraju who are prima facie responsible for the mishap, crime number 31/2012, under section 337,338,304A and 175 of the Railway Act has been registered on the complaint of Peenukonda station manager M Sriramlu. So far 21 bodies have been recovered from the scene, Kumudi said.
The DG said that the bodies were recovered with the help of gas cutters. He said DIG Charu Sinha and his team are on the scene working. The toll is likely to go up as some 40 of the 70 injured are in a critical condition, he said. The railway police chief said a comprehensive inquiry would be ordered later.
