Flame narrates the story of a very extraordinary woman whose determination to be the best drives her existence

To say that Nelofar Currimbhoy adores her mother is an understatement of sorts. Nelofar worships her mother Shahnaz Husain. Known to the world as the Empress of the Beauty World or the Queen of Ayurveda, for Nelofar she is above it all— Shahnaz for her, is the epitome of womanhood.

The story is more like a girl writing about her escapades with her best friend and it is rightfully so as the reader learns of Shahnaz’s marriage at the age of 16 and having a daughter a year later. They grew up more like friends and not like mother and daughter.

The life Nelofar documents is an illutations one. Her lineage is also very impressive. Shahnaz’s dad was unlike the men of that age and wanted that his daughter complete education first and then move on in life. However, as fate would have it, she fell prey to the charms of debonair and dashing Nasir Husain who she describes as the wind ‘beneath her wings’.

Despite coming from a rich influential family Shahnaz worked her way up and never allowed anything to arrest her growth. Be it the death of her father whom she adored, the death of her soulmate Husain, the death of her young son— nothing could stop her from achieving what she set out to.

Nelofar covers this and much more in her book, which she was initially very hesitant about writing. She hopes that Flame will be an inspiration to other women especially women entrepreneurs — nothing is impossible.

Despite revealing a lot of Shahnaz’s private and public life when it comes to the death of her brother Sameer, Nelofar chooses to maintain silence. Also despite the fact that one is initially in awe of this brilliant businesswoman what it ultimately boils down to is the devotion of daughter.

Nelofar has ably kept her promise to her mother.
