Behind the scenes of a photo shoot
All About Eve

Today I thought I would write about my profession and give an insight into behind-the-scenes of maternity photography.
There are various things that one has to counter with regards to confidence issues of first time and new age mothers. Maternity photography in India is mostly been unheard of.
We will find that in India women have always hid behind closed doors when they were pregnant mainly for two reasons. One, their body changes and secondly there is a concept of nazar in India. That you have to protect the baby belly from the evil eye of others.
So during my maternity shoots, the first thing my to-be-mums tell me when they speak to me is ‘I have put on a lot of weight, how will you shoot that?’ My response is always the same, “Are you happy and excited?” What she says next is something that I really admire about most women.
The answer is what shows a woman’s strength, however tired and hard her months of pregnancy have been, she immediately talks about how excited she is and looking forward to seeing her baby. It shifts from her body to bringing life to this world that is a part of her and her husband. Something which is way bigger than weight or fat. That is how I work with my clients.
Once the shoot begins, talk about her baby and she is only concentrating on how she’s feeling. Most people say when a woman is expecting a child there is an added glow to her face. The ‘glow’ someone said the other day is a myth, honestly it’s not.
It is pure happiness that comes from doing something that’s selfless and you feel pure love. I hope someday I can spread this thought that pregnant women should be proud of their bellies, of that life that they have carried for nine months to keep this world going.
