Inimitable Shanker Rao is at it again!
Former minister Shanker Rao has been relentlessly predicting the downfall of the chief minister. He is now set to lodge a breach of privilege against the party leadership with the Assembly secretary
S hanker Rao former minister and MLA who threatened to break open the CLP office in the Assembly premises yesterday but was frustrated in his bid to force open said he was approaching the Assembly secretary with a complaint of breach of privilege and atrocity on him.
Rao who had vowed to forcibly enter the CLP yesterday had to refrain from it as the Assembly staff and marshals prevented him doing anything of the sort. Rao then sat on dharna before the locked office. The Congress leaders had asked it kept closed owing to the increasing tendency of some party members to address the media on real and imaginary grievances against the leadership.
Talking to Postnoon, Shanker Rao said, “No one has the right to lock the CLP office. I’ll make a formal complaint to the Assembly secretary.” When asked how he complained against his own leader (CM), Rao replied that the CM was not an elected leader and that only a month is left for the CM and after the elections it will be a new episode again in the State.
Shanker Rao did not agree with the argument that the CLP was becoming a dais for bashing the chief minister from time to time. Both Shanker Rao and the Minster DL Ravindra Reddy are accused of using CLP media room for making statements against the chief minister.
“I have every right to address a press conference at the CLP office. No one can prevent me. The CLP leader and the CLP executive are nominated to their respective positions. They were not elected by the members of the CLP,” he said in support of his argument that the CLP had no powers to impose restrictions on him.
“The chief minister had sacked me from the cabinet. He is now warning DL Ravindra Reddy. If he does that, he will also face similar action from Sonia Gandhi. I am only answerable to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, not this baccha.(CM).”
Raja Sadaram, secretary of the AP Legislative Assembly told this paper that Shanker Rao has sought an appointment today for moving a privilege motion. Sadaram said that he would forward the same to the speaker Manohar and he would look into the issue. On the other hand the CLP staff is maintained by the contributions from the MLAs and not of the government.
Senior Congress leader Gade Venkat Reddy who first declined to comment over the issue said that it was not right on the part of Shanker Rao to make comments against the leader of the house in the CLP office.Chief whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy on the other hand appealed to Shanker Rao not to criticise the leader of the House in the open.
