Shambhavi, Rashmitha in final
Shambhavi Dikshit reached the under-16 final of the Sinnet Super Series beating Srutha Keerthi 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday. She will play Rashmitha Reddy in the final. Rashmitha Reddy prevailed over Kanishka Chawla 6-7, (7-1), 6-3, 7-5 to make it to the final.
Shambhavi, who made it to the semifinal beating Saranya Nagpal 6-0, 7-6, was her cool, composed self while playing the semifinal though after the match she said she was tensed before the clash. “I was tensed, I had lost to her the last time I played her and that was playing on my mind. But after I took lead the tension ebbed and my form started improving.”
At times, Shambhavi’s game was sublime, especially, her drop shots which were drop dead gorgeous. Whenever it seemed the match was slipping from her hands, she surged forward and came on top. Tempers flew in the second semifinal. Players grunted, mumbled and the match was marred by arguments by both the players over points. Every time Rashmitha scored, she was seen pumping her fist and crying out, “Ale!” You guessed it right: she is aRafa fan. When Kanishka scored she spat,”Point! Point! Point!”
In the under-12 section, Rachana Reddy defeated R. Prathyusha 6-1, 0-6, 6-3 to reach the final. She will face Shajiha Syeda Begum, who outplayed P. Shivanuja 6-1,6-3.
