Rohan K Reddy set up a semifinal date with Vamshi Krishna in the under-12 section of the Sinnet Super series by beating Shashank Theerta 6-1, 6-1.
Rohan said the game was not an easy one though the score suggests otherwise. “It was not easy at all. He played as well as I did in the initial stages. But then I just kept my calm and beat him.”
If Rohan had a relatively easy match, Vamshi Krishna had to survive a first set scare to clinch the next two sets and finish the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. “I was getting increasingly frustrated. That I was 4-3 at one stage just ate me up and lost it.”
Vamshi said he played slow in the beginning and that’s what cost him momentum and then the set.
From the second set, Vamshi changed tact. He started playing aggressive tennis. “That’swhat saved me the match.”
Another player who made it to the under-12 semifinal is Sreevathsa Ratakonda. He beat Dheeraj Dhanvi 6-4, 6-3.
Another interesting match was the under-16 pre-quarter between eighth seeded Bindiya Khanwani and Saranya Nagpal on Tuesday. Saranya took lead first 2-0. Then Bindiya caught up and took lead at 3-2. Bindiya held on with a slender lead at 4-3. But from this point Saranya got her rhythm and fought back and led 7-4 only to have it cut down to 7-6 by Bindiya in the following sets. But Saranya put her foot down and went on to win 9-6.
