Top seed Moulika Ram’s second round match at the Sinnet Super Series against Sama Sathwika was a test of will and endurance. Sama Sathwika, the under-12 No 1 in India, kept pace with the older and experienced Moulika and was 3-3 at one stage of the game.
But experience comes handy in situations like these and Moulika had plenty. She broke the stalemate and slowly yet persistently won one game at a time and went from 3-3 to 4-3 to 5-3 to 6-3 to 7-3. Here Sama seemed reluctant to lose that easy and took the score to 7-4. However, Moulika allowed no slip-up and finished the match 9-4.
If Rashmitha Reddy had an edgy start in u-16 round one, she made up for it in the second round beating Mansi Reddy 8-0. So dominant she was that she gave her opponent no chance for a fightback.
In the first round against Nisha from Bangalore, she admitted she made errors and hence had to sweat it out a bit to get back into the game and wrap it up 8-3. In the second round, matters were different. The third seed from AP was in top form. Rashmitha stuck to her crosscourt game and won the match hands down. “I just played my natural game,” she said. “I was very cool.It was not so in the first round. I was a bit uneasy. That’s how my game is.With each round, my game gets better and better.”
