TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu is bogged down by issues of political tussles within the family with Junior NTR and Balakrishna looking to undo the ‘wrong’ done during Senior NTR’s time.

The divided house — the Congress — can take heart. Looking at the TDP home, the Congress could console itself that the issue of power play is not restricted to the Congress party.

The TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is facing multiple problems that threaten to erode his party’s base further.

Three members of the family are angling for the chief ministerial gaddi while the party is nowhere near power.

Actors Balakrishna and Junior NTR still want to ‘correct’ the historic blunder by which NTR’s legacy was ‘hijacked’ by Babu. But Naidu’s son Lokesh is also waiting in the wings. In fact, Babu too dreams of Lokesh gaining power in the State like Akhilesh Yadav did in Uttar Pradesh.

NTR’s son Nandamuri Harikrishna did not attend the recent TDP politburo meeting. It was clear that Harikrishna and his son Junior NTR are in no mood to remain with Babu in the party and co-operate with him for coming back to power.

Balakrishna himself wants to become chief minister after the 2014 elections.

He is a staunch believer in astrology. Astrologers predicted that he is destined to become the chief minister. Junior NTR is also being looked on as the future CM by his fans and followers.

Balakrishna promising to campaign for the party and taking up responsibility for the victory is an indication of his determination to become the chief minister. He was instrumental in changing the vaastu of the party office also.

He regards Junior NTR as a threat to his ambition and treats the latter with contempt.

If the TDP wins in the next elections, it would be either Babu or Balakrishna who would become the chief minister and it would be difficult for Junior NTR later.

If TDP loses for the third time, Babu will be forced to retire and the party would be in disarray. At this point, Junior NTR could don the role of a saviour and lead the party.

Junior NTR has been talking loud about his leadership, charisma and his resemblances to his grandfather, senior NTR.

The TDP chief is understood to have recognized junior NTR as a potential threat to his son Lokesh who wants to make his mark as a leader in AP politics at the earliest.

Thus Junior NTR has become a problem for both Babu and Balakrishna. Both of them are keeping him at a distance, but Junior NTR as such is trying to claim the legacy of his grandfather soon.

Babu brought Junior NTR into senior NTR’s family fold and got him married to his niece. But the junior is in no mood to take the diktats from Babu.

The problem from within the family is far greater than the one from outside for babu. He has to pay special attention to resolve this issue at least before the by-polls if not after the polls.
