Eko Cobra or Einsatzkommando Cobra
Austria

Comprising of only 150 personnel, the Eko Cobra unit is not part of the military or the police force. Only the best and the most elite soldiers of the Jaeger units of the Austrian Army are taken into the Eko Cobra operations whose motto is to ensure domestic law enforcement and counter terrorism. Adept at
winter warfare, and close combat warfare, the recruits are put to grueling tests in the most extremes of cold climatic conditions using some of the heaviest equipment. One of the major emphases of the Eko Cobra is the skill to use ropes to enter buildings, which requires great physical ability. The head office of the Eko Cobra is in the Viennese new city, with other base of operations in Graz, Linz and Innsbruck.

Delta Force
United States of America

Trained to the highest level in the United States Military, it doesn’t get any better than this tier-one counter terrorism and Special Ops squad. These operators are also known as the Combat Applications Group (CAG). They are called in for sensitive operations that require the best and therefore made available to the Army, the FBI and the CIA. Along with its Navy wing DEVGRU, Delta Force also known as SEAL Team Six, are the United States’
primary counter-terrorism units. Covert Missions that involve rescuing hostages, raids, direction action, or counter-insurgency are usually handled by Delta Force. Though they have been routinely criticised for being on the fringe of regular laws governing the military and having less accountability than any other special Ops team, Delta is still the deadliest force in the free world.
National Security Guard
India

Known popularly as ‘black cats’ due to their black uniform and all-black combat gear, the NSG is a potent unit of the Indian Special Forces. Its personnel are drawn from the armed forces and paramilitary organisations. They are trained in unconventional combat, advanced weapons, survival skills, urban warfare, guerilla warfare and other special operations during their 22-week training. The strength of the force is estimated to be around 15,000 and its headquarters is in Manesar, Haryana. Since its inception in 1986, the NSG has carried out dozens of operations and are still actively involved in special ops across the country.
Special Service Group (SSG)
Pakistan

Pakistan’s most elite special operations Naval force, SSG is expertly trained to conduct sea-air-land incursion, counter-terrorism, naval intelligence gathering, hostage rescue, and boarding. It derives its members from the best of Pakistan’s naval forces, estimated to be between 700 and 1000 members. They are often deployed when there are highly important missions that call for hostage rescue, foreign internal defense, direct action or special reconnaissance. The Pakistan Navy, created its own Special warfare unit under the advise of U.S. Navy, decided to start a force of its own which was how the SSG came about.
Marine Commando Force
India

From the freezing waters of Wular Lake in Kashmir to the tropical inland waterways of Jafna peninsula, the Marcos of the Navy have made their mark in several theatres with elan. The most illustrious assignment of the Marcos was in 1988 when its men drove out a mercenary force that had taken control of Maldives and subsequently mounted a successful operation to rescue hostages and apprehend the aggressors. The force keeps its combat skills honed with regular participation in counter-insurgency operations across the country and joint exercises with special forces of other countries. Currently, they are deployed in anti-piracy operations and protect offshore assets, especially oil rigs.
Alpha Group or Spetsgruppa A
Russia

An elite, standalone component of Russia’s special forces, Alpha came into being in the 1970s, in the aftermath of the Munich Summer Olympics. The Soviets hoped that Group A would enhance its defense capabilities against terrorist attack. Even after the collapse of the USSR, it continued to be an integral wing of Russia’s FSB Special Operations Center, working towards preventing terrorism. The group includes expert demolition technicians, snipers, long-range marksmen. The groups notable mission was in 1979 when they successfully eliminated the Afghan president Hafizullah Amin, which marked the beginning of Soviet War in Afghanistan. Notorious for being trigger-happy, they were more recently in the news for the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis, where they eliminated 31 terrorists to rescue 1200 hostages being held by Chechen separatists.

Who wants James Bond and MI 6 when you have the SAS. They are the British Army’s most renowned special forces Unit. Trained to excel in all terrains, the SAS function can engage in mountains, valleys, deserts and jungles. It is said that they came into being when in WWII, there was need for a desert raiding force. They first caught the public light when in 1980, armed with MP5 sub machine guns, they stormed the Iranian Embassy, which was being held hostage by terrorists and rescued 21 civilians. Who dares Wins was their motto. Do we need to say more?
