Leaderboard remains crowded
All the five top boards ended without decisive results, making no change in the five players leader board at the end of the fifth round of the NMDC All India Fide rated chess tournament, organised by Cyber Chess Academy at Suchithra Academy, here today. On the top board, IM and top seed Debashis Das of Orissa made a formal 17 move draw with Rahul Sangma of Railways. Second seeded K Priyadharshan of Tamil Nadu accepted the queen’s gambit by the local hope CRG Krishna and the latter had an extra pawn in the end game. But opposite colour bishop ending forced them to settle for a draw, after 59 moves.
IM V Koshy of ONGC tried in vain to secure a win with his connected pawns in a rook and pawn ending of English opening. His opponent N Krishna Teja of AP defended correctly to get half a point in 49 moves.
