A peculiar petition was filed in the APHRC yesterday by a group of women alleging that an Astrology guide in the name of Kalachakram violated the rights of girl child. The women wanted the court to take action against the astrologer Srinivasa gargeya. The astrology prediction book for the year 2012-13 to be followed from this Ugadi has stated that if a girl attains puberty in such and such a time , she is bound to run away, become a prostitute or become a widow. There are other predictions where the girls would be doing bad things.
The HRC Judge Peri Peddi Reddy suggested that the women who were led by Devi, a consultant of UNICEF, file a review petition on Tuesday. The Judge, who discouraged the women saying that this issue will not come under the HRC preview later admitted the petition when he came to know that it was violation of rights.
Srinivasa Gargeya the author of Kalachakram Panchangam said that he has nothing against girls or women. It was for protecting the girls from bad behaviour. It can be stopped when the parents check the time of puberty and then know about their future. The bad time and behaviour can be stopped once they come to know about the future of the girl child he opined.
On the other hand Madhusudhan from Jana Vignana Vedika said that they would be filing a police case in this regard on the predictions by Srinivas Gargeya.
Srinivasa Gargeya quoted the Supreme Court saying that Astrology is a science and there was nothing wrong in predicting the timings and behaviour of women. He said that all astrology books have a chapter on behaviour of men and women. But all of them are in Sanskrit while he wrote in Telugu, which now became a controversy.
