Temptress on the prowl
If you are young, are male, and you ride a bike, then this is for you. When you see a well-dressed single woman, so alluringly frail-looking, signaling you for a free ride, don’t play Lancelot or Samaritan, just accelerate and escape.
Several young women have taken up the vocation of conning single men who ride bikes, especially at night. They stand in a less crowded area and wait for young bikers to come along before thumbing for a ride. For carnal reasons or for charity, you stop. She would get on the pillion, and slowly, her deft fingers will tickle your fancy and once you are in the mood she would suggest a lonely place for closure.
The lonely place could be a bush, a veranda of a shop in a bylane or behind a shopping complex. Once she takes you there she will give up the frail young lady act and demand harshly that you surrender every valuable you possess — be it a watch, mobile phone, cash or gold. And, if you have no cash, you must take out your ATM card and go with her to the nearest ATM and withdraw money. Any intention of acting funny? Forget it, she already has her tough-looking accomplices in place who have been following you all the while on a bike.
The trick, is nothing new but it went on unnoticed till the arrest of Nayeema Begum. She is 30, fairly good looking, well-educated and lives away from her parents. Inspector Radhesh Murli of Gopalpuram North Zone explains how Nayeema operates. “She has many aliases such as Sufiya, Sana, Sony, Nasreen and Honey… She speaks Hindi, English, Urdu and Telugu (with a little difficulty). She has been operating for the past seven years. Nayeema is a resident of Malakpet but she keeps shifting base fearing arrest. She is an accomplished con artiste. Once she tried to bite a policeman’s finger in the court compound to escape. She was angling for his ear but could not get it. On another occasion she smacked a cop.”
Inspector Murli says Nayeema is not unknown to the police. She was picked up by the police of Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Chaderghat, Nampally and several other police stations in the past. She was convicted many times but she comes out and resumes her ‘work.’ The police have not been able to get information out of her on her accomplices. “She definitely has a gang behind her,” the inspector said. But third-degree cannot be used on a woman and therefore there is no information.
ACP Mahankali GP Vasu Seena told Postnoon that in Secunderabad alone there are nearly 15 lady cheats operating. The police believe, several hundred single male bikers have fallen prey to this kind of temptation but pride and shame keeps them from reporting the crime. There are dozens of them operating in the City in a similar fashion.
