Pink Tourism in India
Shwetha Pai
Gay or Lesbian Tourism in India is new and unheard of by many, but it is quite well known in the West. Being open to Gay Tourism in India is not only a matter of acceptance but also being smart about where the buck lies. Many travel companies across the world know the power of the ‘pink money,’ which is valued at over 350 billion pounds globally.
Most gay people in the world have tremendous economic potential, especially considering their Dink (Double Income No Kids) status. They are always known to look for great accommodations and impeccable service. In India, there are few hotels run by gay owners and even fewer mid-level hotels that are gay friendly and this has resulted in tourists having low expectations before they arrive in the country.
Tourism in India is the largest service industry in the country and the Delhi High Court has decriminalised homosexuality. But, many popular tourist destinations in the country continue to equate LGBT tourism to sex tourism and consider the whole concept as perverse.
Despite all this gay tourists continue to consider India a popular destination. A few gay travel agencies in the country offer customised packages to tourists that include surrogacy tours, spiritual camps, weddings and honeymoon packages. While pointed questions about how they’d like their beds to be positioned in their room to questions about their marital status have made the gay couples vary, they are still drawn to India to experience the varied and exotic locales it has to offer.

Already India is giving up it’s millenia of culture and social structure to fit in with the decay that is the US… These kinds of propaganda articles sure seem nice, but these people will never be accepted in India, and it won’t be changed, EVER.
