All cases against students withdrawn
Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy has said that 657 cases filed against students during the Telangana agitation were being withdrawn as assured by the government in the Assembly.
Sabita and Law Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy held a meeting with police top-brass and discussed the matter.
Speaking to the media later, Sabita said some cases would be withdrawn and 133 cases were being referred for legal advice. She said that a total of 790 cases would be withdrawn by the end of this month. She also assured that GOs on the withdrawal would be issued soon. She explained that the delay was for ensuring that there would be no legal problems, once the cases were withdrawn. She added that withdrawal of cases registered during the Sakala Janula Samme would be considered later.
The Home Minister has assured that students would not have any kind of problem due to the cases while writing competitive examinations. She said that some 5,000 students would be getting relief because of the government’s decision to withdraw the cases. Delay in withdrawing cases happened because some private properties were damaged and that required sorting out.
