Textile shops to go on strike

| January 22, 2012

HYDERABAD:  Textile traders in the State are going on a strike from Monday till January 31 protesting against the imposition of value-added tax (VAT). The AP Federation of Textile Merchants Association’s convener for twin cities unit A Prakash disclosed this to the media.

The State Government was imposing a VAT of five per cent, whereas it wasn’t so much in other States. This was levying a heavy burden on retail stores and also buyers. This was obviously encouraging those who wanted to take up bulk purchase to go to neighbouring States.

Prakash said that the efforts of the Association which represented to the Chief Minister and several public representatives did not bear fruit. The Association would also take up relay hunger strikes at Indira Park from Januar 23 for nine days. He urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and rescind the decision.
