HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the police. Naidu was taking out a rally to highlight the problems of people due to shortage in power supply.

Naidu was prevented by the police on Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, as he did not obtain permission to take out the rally he embarked on from NTR Trust Bhavan to Vidyut Soudha. Naidu and others protested the disruption. The police arrested Telangana employees of AP Transco who wanted to confront Naidu.

The atmosphere seemed charged up suddenly with Telangana activists camping at Vidyut Soudha to confront the TDP chief.  They held banners denouncing Naidu and asking him to ‘go back’.

The TDP came up with an interesting slogan – ‘No current in State, no power with CM’. The police initially contemplated arresting Naidu at NTR Trsut Bhavan itself, but recalled the decision for strategic reasons. Naidu gave a call to people to oust the Congress government in the State.

Addressing a gathering of his party workers and supporters at the NTR Trust Bhavan before starting the padayatra, Chandrababu held the Congress misrule responsible for the villages reeling in darkness.

He said that the Congress Government had been raising the power tariff from time to time. There was an increase in power cuts and the farmers were reeling under drought. He touched upon the woes of industry, agriculture and other sectors.
