Huge Sikh procession marks Guru’s birthday

Over 20,000 Sikh devotees participated on Thursday in the “Nagar Keertan’’ (Holy Proc­ession) taken out on the occasion of the 346th Prakash Utsav (Birthday Celebrations) of the Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singhji.

The highlight was the carrying of Guru Granth Sahibji (sacred and revered scripture of Sikhs) on a beautifully decorated vehicle alo­ngwith “Nishaan Saheban” (Flag be­a­rers) during the procession. Sh­a­bad keertans were rendered by Jat­ha Tera Jatha and other Keerthani Jathas of men, women and youth groups all along the procession.

“Panj Pyaras” (five beloved ones) were the cynosure of all eyes. The Sikh youths hailing from Kalgidhar Dashmesh Jatha and other Gatka Jathas displayed their “Ghatka” skills by performing extraordinary exercise with their blunt weapons, Kirpans, swords skills and other skills with breath-taking performances attracting the crowd, Kada Prasad, tea and snacks were supplied to devotees along the routes.
