Hyderabad: Another colony, which fulfills the parameters set up by the GHMC for the best managed residential hub is Uma Nagar Residential Welfare society . The members of the society have strived for 12 years to achieve the status.
The colony which was founded in 1969 consists of a total 60 plots. Many of these plots now house big apartments besides individual houses. The residents of the colony volunteer in segregating garbage in dry and wet baskets for the GHMC sanitation staff.. The residents also participate in gardening activities which involve watering plants in park and on streets.
The most important feature of this colony is that they would collect Rs. 2 per day from each residence to put it in the corpus fund.
This corpus fund is used to organize community functions every month for the residents of the colony. The colony is manned by round the clock security.
The main decisions related to the development of the colony are taken by a core committee consisting 29 members of the colony. This committee will take all the important decisions related to development activities. apart from this committee the colony also has garden, security, legal and executive committees to undertake various activities.
According to the president of the colony, Captain Manohar Sharma, they have contributed for the construction of drainage system to GHMC as a social responsibility.
He further said that they have also spent Rs. 50,000 for providing facilities in children’s park which is exclusively meant for children.
The colony has recently received an award from GHMC for following best practices required for the upkeep of environment. “I am very happy that the colony has been selected as the best colony by the GHMC for its efforts to protect environment and infrastructure.
It has also set up an example by discouraging illegal structures within the colony limits,” He said.
