Guessing game continues

Hyderabad: With just four days left for the crucial mayoral elections in GHMC, the party choosing the probables, AIMIM, is struggling to keep its cards close to its chest.
The trick the MIM camp adopts to throw you off scent is to float around half a dozen probable names. But Postnoon found out that corporators Zulfeqar Ali and Jaffer Hussain have emerged as the most probable contenders. The reason is that these corporators have the support of other members in GHMC and party MLAs.
Zulfeqar Ali, has the advantage of having experience since he was the mayor 20 years ago. On the other hand, deputy mayor Jaffer Hussain has discharged yeoman’s services for the party and public as the first deputy mayor of the corporation.
Both these candidates are said to be very close to party president Asaduddin Owaisi and have a good name in the party circles. Zulfeqar Ali told Postnoon the party president will decide and hardly revealed anything more. But both the leaders seem optimistic about their chances to become the first mayor of GHMC from their party.
Congress party is in dilemma
Meanwhile, the ruling alliance of MIM, the Congress party is still in a dilemma over the selection of party candidate for deputy mayor’s post. GHMC political circles are rife with the news that state cabinet ministers belonging to Hyderabad —Danam Nagender and Mukesh Goud — have locked horns to ensure that their respective supporter be elected for the deputy mayor post. The names of Kukatpally corporator G Vengal Rao, Hafeezpet corporator Jagadeeswar Goud, Congress party floor leader K Venkatesh and Khairatabad corporator Sharif are doing the rounds for the deputy mayor’s position.
The nomination, elections and declaration of results would be done on December 30 itself.
