Alternative healing has been in the limelight but what has caught the fancy of all is the new-age past-life regression therapy. Postnoon explores
Talk about feel-good therapies and you have a list of new-age therapies all around you. From age-old Ayurveda and Yoga to the modern Reiki, Feng Shui, meditation and much more. Apart from these, alternative healing has become one of the most sought-after therapies today. And the latest addition to this list is past-life regression therapy, which has caught the fancy of the tinsel world and public alike, and has not even spared the West.
The interest in knowing about one’s past life has been around for quite some time but it started getting attention from the past couple of years with shows being made on the subject and people wanting to know about their past lives. Hollywood actor Shirley Maclaine has been of the most prominent figures from the West who comes to mind when one thinks of this therapy. Shirley has delved deeply into this topic and has even come up with books relating to spirituality and the occult and has been a name to reckon with in such subjects. Closer to home, it was the reality show that caught the interest of all. The show featured celebrities like Shekhar Suman, Monica Bedi, Payal Rohatgi and Chunky Pandey among others who wanted to know more about their past life.
Actor Chunkey Pandey, who participated in the show and managed to conquer his fears to a certain extent, feels it was a fabulous feeling and experienced incidents that he had never seen before. “I was a non-believer initially but it was on the insistence of my wife that I went ahead. The idea was not to fight it and just go with the flow and I saw things and places that I had never expected. I landed 100 years back in Portugal,” he shares adding, “It was a mind-blowing experience and a totally different journey mentally as well as physically. I was out of breath, sweating and palpitating. I was scared that I would not come back or lose my memory and not remember my wife or kids but I came out much lighter and in a way, got over my fear,” he recalls.
Sowmya Sharma a dubbing artist in Tollywood too, undertook this therapy. She shares with us how she went about it. “I was dubbing for the movie Three, which deals with past-life regression and in the process I got the number of one of the professionals who does this therapy. Initially I was just curious about the whole thing but after a discussion with the person, I realised it’s not supposed to be made fun of and is much more serious than what I had thought,” she recalls. She then goes on to say, “After a couple of days when I went back, I knew the reason and why I wanted to do it. Something that was disturbing me from a long time was the lack of mutual love within my family. After the therapy, I came out clear with a lot of answers and knew the reasons for a lot of problems and somehow over months unconsciously I had gotten over a lot of issues, which I realised later.”
Clinical psychologist and a person who conducts sessions for past-life regression, Dr Trupti Jayin mentions that this therapy has been in vogue from the past 70 to 80 years but has come to the fore only recently. “There has been a drastic change in people’s mindset and they have started seeking answers to the questions that have bothered them for long. With past-life regression therapy people have realised that something as simple as this can help them get rid of many of their fears and also give them answers,” she shares, adding, “While it is a therapy that helps people get answers to their questions, I personally do not encourage or entertain people who just come out of curiosity or fun as it is not something to be done just for the sake of it. If one does not have actual questions or issues and is doing this just to explore, the process can leave them all the more confused and lost.
Past-life therapy in a way does help you unlock the secrets of your past lives and has also given a fresh perspective to people and helped them overcome their fears. But this thriving new-age therapy has much more to it than indulging in it for fun. So think before you head that way. Things may not seem as casual as you think they maybe.
