Invite positivity into your homes
Water features can transform silent homes and office spaces into soothing natural environments rich with the sound of flowing water. Apart from making a home trendy, it adds the much-needed soothing effect
“To dream of a fountain represents great joy, renewed pleasure or increased sensitivity. These are all an outburst of positive and healthy emotions.” A reference from the dream dictionary explains what it means to have dreamt of a water body in general. You realise the kind of positive effect water has on you when you have only dreamt about it. Now imagine having one of your own; how enticing an idea is that?
Water features in homes or offices have become the most stylish and leading home décor accessory these days. They are easily available in the market and one can easily enhance the interiors or the exteriors of their home.
Interior designer Jamien Rao is of the opinion that water bodies create a good aura around the house. “JNRO basically believes in design psychology. We want to understand the needs and wants of our customers closely before we design their homes for them,” he says. “From a maintenance point of view, the water feature should ideally be placed outside, near the entrance. Since, vaastu is highly regarded in Hyderabad, one should have it at the southwest corner of the house,” he advises. “A cascading form of water body is recommended. This adds a soothing effect as water is always calming and builds a positive aura around the house. One can have water bodies in the forms of koi ponds, which ideally flow from the interior to the exterior, connecting the two. One can also have spouts in the living room,” he suggests.
Interior designer Kruti Kakadia explains that bungalows or independent houses have the perfect space to have water bodies around. “You can have different types of water bodies installed at home. Koi ponds inculcate the exterior landscaping to the one inside the house. You can also use rocks to build an artificial waterfall, water curtains could be placed in the dining area. You can even build a water body that goes around the house and have a little bridge that goes over the pond and connects the door,” she says.
It is a well-known fact that water bodies are perfect for those who are in search for some in-house relaxation and hydrotherapy. “Water in itself provides a serene, zen kind of a feel. It also lessens the negative vibes creating a warm, refreshing and soothing environment. It also adds to the aesthetic appeal; you could add lighting all around it or put floating flowers. There are quite a few things you can do. Just keep in mind as to which side the water feature is facing so that it creates reflections on the wall and you can do this with the right kind of lighting. You could also place a mirror behind the water body,” says interior designer Aparna Karvy going on to add that, “It’s a good option to set up a water body at work as it will provide calm in a stressful environment.”
Proper maintenance is required to keep the water body clean. Water needs to be changed regularly and usually a motor should be used to remove debris. So go ahead and jazz up your homes.
